Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Wien: J. B. Wallishausser, 1844), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; and 17 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Zangler; Marie; Weinberl; Christopherl; Kraps; Gertrude, 60-jährige Frau; Melchior; Sonders; Hupfer, Schneider; Frau Knorr; Frau von Fischer; Fräulein Blumenblatt; Philippine, Stubenmädchen; Lisette; ein Kutscher; Rab; and ein Kellner. (The published copy shows the following additional roles, some of which may have been omitted in performance: Brunninger, Kaufmann; ein Hausmeister; ein Wächter; and ein zweiter Kellner.) All of the items bear a stamp of the name and street address of Theodor Bloch, who ran a theater lending library in Philadelphia. The published copy also shows previous stamps (crossed out) of "Naumann & Bechstaedi / New York," and "Naumann & Rosenbaum / Theater-Agenten / New York." Names of actors and actresses are noted on the front of some of the role books. Most of the names are familiar from the casts of other German-language plays in Philadelphia and reflect a cast that would have performed around 1888. The same cast member names are noted next to the character list in the published copy. Four of the role books are stamped "Fred. Hassmann / Schauspieler," the actor who played Christopherl (possibly Hassmann wrote out those role books, which are all in the same hand, as well as 2 others that do not bear his stamp). See also a theater newspaper of Nov. 1878 advertising a performance of the play in Philadelphia (the role books do not, however, appear to relate to that earlier period).
